클래식을 배경음악으로 깔아놓는 외엔
음악에도 시큰둥...
그런데 어제 퇴근길에
나도 몰래 흥얼거리며 우수에 젖어든 노래가
Genesis의 For Absent Friends이다.
Genesis의 세번째 앨범인가?
Nursery Cryme에 실린 조용한 곡이다.
이젠 한참이나 오래된 일이라
서글프기까지 한 일이지만,
성시완씨가 쓴 속지를 포함한
이 앨범의 예음 라이센스 LP를 사들고
흥분을 가라앉히지 못했던 시절도 있었다......
For Absent Friends는 가사가 왠지 슬프다.
되돌릴 수 없이
한방향으로만 달려가는 시간의 기둥에서
한적한 서글픔이 부스스 낙엽처럼
떨어져 흩어내리는 듯한 느낌을 만들어낸다.
가을이다. 역시.....

for friends not there.
Leaving twopence on the plate,
they hurry down the path and through the gate
and wait to board the bus
that ambles down the street.
